The Steamship Cuyahoga was built in 1943 by the American Shipbuilding Co. in Lorain, Ohio, for the U.S. Maritime Comission and leased to the Great Lakes Steamship Co. She was originally the J Burton Ayers (US 243772) and was converted to a self-unloader in 1974. She was laid-up for the last time in December, 1990 and was sold Canadian in 1995. She still has her original Lentz Marine engine and "bucket type" self unloading system..
