Chief Engineer's Quarters

The Chief engineer's quarters are large enough to hold a desk and be used as an office. Just as the Captain can get to the pilot house without going outside the Chief Engineer can enter the engine room right from his quarters. A second door in the Chief's bathroom leads onto a catwalk just underneath the engine room skylight.

The closet is large because it was once the stairway from the spar deck to the engine room. This ladder was removed when the ship was re-powered in 1954 and the unused space turned into a closet for the Chief Engineer.

This room is currently undergoing restoration. Progress con be seen in the photos below:
