Backup Diesel/Generator set

The Mather is equipped with a backup electrical system consisting of a Catapillar D375 8 cylinder 317 horsepower diesel engine coupled to a 200 KW General Electric generator. This system is still used on a regular basis by the Museum staff when performing maintenance which involves use of heavy electrical loads such as pumping ballast tanks or operating the mooring winches.
